PURPOSE

Junior Achievement of Greater Reading and Lehigh Valley inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a global economy.

MISSION

Junior Achievement of Greater Reading and Lehigh Valley will ensure that every child in Berks, Lehigh and Northampton County has a fundamental understanding of the free enterprise systems.

VALUES

Junior Achievement uses the highest ethical standards to make decisions that maintain our community's trust and respect.  We value people for their diverse and unique contributions to our organizational effort and we provide and encourage opportunity for our volunteers and staff to grow.  In addition, we value individual initiative within teams.

Junior Achievement of Greater Reading and Lehigh Valley is a non-profit organization providing basic economic education to youth in public and parochial schools throughout our county. We are a branch of the worldwide organization, Junior Achievement Worldwide, which reaches 4 million students in the United States.

JA is the world's largest and fastest growing non-profit economic education organization, a national board of directors - distinguished educational and business leaders, nurtures it. This organizational pattern is reflected in all the regional licensed JA offices, including Greater Reading, in which the board of directors provides dedicated and creative leadership to the organization's operation. Locally, JA provides programs to 12,000 students from Kindergarten through 12th grades. Key programs include the Elementary School Program, demonstrating to students the relevance of education in preparation for the workplace, secondary school and lifelong learning. The Middle School Program teaches concepts related to personal economics, international business and entrepreneurship, including a special program targeted for at-risk students. The High School Program, a semester-long economics class which provides opportunities for students to run their own business and participate in practical business and economic decisions through skill-building exercises and software support. All programs are interactive. At the core of each program are community volunteers. High school students, college students, business retirees, community leaders and area professionals contribute time and energy to students in Greater Reading and Lehigh Valley classrooms, making a difference in the lives of our children and our Greater Reading and Lehigh Valley workforce through stimulation, sharing real-life experiences and by creating can-do attitudes!
